With less than two months until Election Day, Democrats are getting more anxious to see their hoped-for “blue wave” come to fruition.
Democratic strategist Antjuan Seawright has come to hate the analogy. “I don’t swim,” he tells me.
In a sit-down with the Washington Examiner, Seawright likened the opportunity that lays before Democrats ahead of the 2018 midterm election as a football team on offense in the red zone about to punch the ball in for the game-winning touchdown, if only they run the right plays.
However, it might not come down to play-calling from Democrats, as Seawright believes Republicans are already handicapped by President Trump. Because of Trump, he said, every GOP-held seat is vulnerable in the upcoming midterm election.
“Republicans have hung their hat on the Donald Trump train,” Seawright said. “And I think that train has left the track and it will no longer get back on the right track.”
He continued. “The president’s poll numbers are in the tank. He is on life support politically in many places. That’s why you see in Florida, the Republican nominee [Gov. Rick Scott] has decided to run full steam backward away from the president.”
Most recently, Scott distanced himself from Trump after the president disputed the death toll in Puerto Rico from Hurricane Maria.

3000 people did not die in the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico. When I left the Island, AFTER the storm had hit, they had anywhere from 6 to 18 deaths. As time went by it did not go up by much. Then, a long time later, they started to report really large numbers, like 3000…

…..This was done by the Democrats in order to make me look as bad as possible when I was successfully raising Billions of Dollars to help rebuild Puerto Rico. If a person died for any reason, like old age, just add them onto the list. Bad politics. I love Puerto Rico!

I disagree with @POTUS– an independent study said thousands were lost and Gov. Rosselló agreed. I’ve been to Puerto Rico 7 times & saw devastation firsthand. The loss of any life is tragic; the extent of lives lost as a result of Maria is heart wrenching. I’ll continue to help PR
