Wendy Davis no longer accusing wheelchair-bound opponent of trying to ‘kick’ ladder from victims

Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis continued meeting with disabled Texans following her disastrous campaign ad knocking her wheelchair-bound opponent’s disability.

Noticeably absent from her discussion was her claim that Greg Abbott, her opponent, had worked to “kick” down the ladder of victims trying to get compensation.

Davis’ tour is the result of a campaign ad released last Friday that snidely remarked how “a tree fell on Greg Abbott” and “he sued and got millions.”

The backlash for the ad was swift, with the Washington Post calling it “one of the nastiest campaign ads you will ever see” and MSNBC host Mika Brzezinksi saying she “cringed” while watching the ad.

Davis began digging herself a deeper hole on Monday, when she held a press conference with a group of disabled Texans voicing their support for the candidate. The optics of the press conference did not go in Davis’ favor.

Davis stumbled again on Tuesday, when she told MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell that Abbott was working against other victims.

“[Greg Abbott] received millions of dollars in a settlement, and since then, in his entire public service career, he has been working to kick that ladder down and deny that same opportunity for justice to other people,” Davis said.

Davis is doing herself no favors by continuing this line of attack. It’s starting to look like former Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell’s “I’m not a witch” ad.*

*I’m comparing the ads and how it appears like Davis is trying really hard to show she has nothing against the disabled. I’m not trying to make a “witch” comparison but feel free to voice any outrage in the comments section.
