Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., on Thursday responded to the claim she supposedly cast the deciding vote in 2009 to pass the Affordable Care Act by placing the healthcare law’s final passage on every single Senate Democrat.
“She was the deciding vote,” former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown said during the Thursday debate.
“There were 60 of us!” the incumbent Democratic senator interrupted. “Everybody was a deciding vote!”
Brown continued: “Every Democrat voted. And yes, every Democrat was the deciding vote for a terrible bill that’s crushing businesses.”
There are several vulnerable Democratic senators up this year, including Sens. Kay Hagan, D-N.C.; Mark Pryor, D-Ark.; Mark Udall, D-Colo.; Mary Landrieu, D-La.; and Mark Begich, D-Alaska.
Fifty-one percent of voters say they oppose Obamacare, while only 38 percent say they’re in favor of it, according to RealClearPolitics’ weighted polling average.
Separate surveys reveal that voters are also open to the idea of the law being left in place — but only if major changes are applied.
