Attacks only go one way

Re: “Calling Fort Hood attacks terrorism not simple matter for White House,” Nov. 10

If an article is going to quote James Zogby as saying “anti-Muslim slurs following the Fort Hood attack were nothing new …”, then how about giving your readers some examples. This meme of Americans frothing at the mouth and assaulting Muslims is baseless, but is constantly repeated without any facts to substantiate it. The only attacks taking place have been Muslims attacking non-Muslim Americans — and without any repercussions.

Democrats reneging on abortion promises

President Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid promised not to include funding of abortion in their health care proposals, but they are reneging on their promise and pushing hard to fund it. Abortion, which kills pre-born babies, is not health care. In fact, it is extremely detrimental to women’s physical and psychological health and risks the well-being of their future children. Nine studies in seven countries found that abortion injures women. A recently published study in New Zealand showed that more than 85 percent of aborted women reported negative reactions including sorrow, guilt, regret, grief and disappointment. Despite this proof, women are not being told the psychological risks of abortion. Pelosi, Reid and Obama want to bail out abortion providers, not improve women’s health.

Americans abandoned their Christian heritage

As the nation paused to honor those who fought to protect our country, we civilians should have also acknowledged the sad fact that we have largely failed in our own duties. Symbols of our Christian heritage are scorned and ridiculed as religious sentiments are increasingly ranked among the unwelcome leftovers of antiquity. Everything in public life is becoming totally secularized, and the values and norms that once held societies together are being thrown overboard. Our soldiers fought bravely for a better future, but our generation lacks any true concern for the future. This is evident in our overuse of resources, degradation of the environment, oppression of women, neglect of family values, and abandonment of ethical norms and religious traditions.
