If it was not already apparent that the Democrats are not interested in serious negotiation, it should be now.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer are reportedly lobbying on behalf of Planned Parenthood, a nonprofit organization that cannot legally receive taxpayer dollars under the Hyde Amendment, and demanding that Senate Republicans include the abortion provider in its stimulus relief package.
The Democrats want abortion providers to be eligible for aid under the small-business portion of the nearly $2 trillion stimulus package, according to Bloomberg News. This is absurd. The stimulus package is supposed to provide economic relief to businesses that must make money but can’t as a result of the coronavirus shutdown. Planned Parenthood does not need to turn a profit — or so they say. So, why is the abortion provider trying to get hold of federal funding?
This maneuver is just the latest that proves Planned Parenthood is not the organization it claims to be. It is not a medical center or a healthcare provider. Indeed, the abortion provider isn’t even good at disguising its real aim: money! Planned Parenthood’s clinics are still open. Its employees still have jobs. Customers are still paying for its services. Yet, the abortion provider and its Democratic advocates would have us believe that its financial situation is just as dire as the thousands of small businesses that have been forced to shut down entirely.
This shameless politicking must stop. The fight over funding for Planned Parenthood is reportedly one of the remaining holdups in the Senate’s negotiations, which means that hundreds of thousands of businesses and millions of people are being forced to stand by while Pelosi and Schumer use this pandemic as leverage to push an unrelated, purely ideological agenda.
Enough is enough. Pelosi and Schumer work for the public, not Planned Parenthood. Or have they forgotten that?
