THE DAILY OUTRAGE: We gave you money we didn’t mean to give you, so spend it anyway

Who: Office of Community Oriented Policing Services

What: Awarded $679,136 in taxpayer stimulus money to the Lincoln Police Department which didn’t actually qualify for it, while the Grand Island Police Department didn’t receive the $576,528 for which it was qualified.

Why it’s an outrage: The Justice Department report, which found the errors, made no mention of the Lincoln department returning the money. Lincoln was among 45 agencies that mistakenly received grants totaling $15 million.

Where to vent: Call the Department of Justice inspector general at800-869-4499.
