State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki lit up Twitter late Thursday with one of the worst public diplomacy fails in social media history.
It all started with this tweet aimed at Russian aggression toward Ukraine:
The world stands #UnitedforUkraine. Let’s hope that the #Kremlin & @mfa_russia will live by the promise of hashtag
— Heather Nauert (@statedeptspox) April 24, 2014
The response was instantaneous — and derisive. Here’s an example:
Oddly impressed by willingness of @statedeptspox to embrace the worst stereotypes of O’s diplomacy

Some Twitter users thought it was a mistake, but then this surfaced to indicate it wasn’t: Nope — just more of the “smart diplomacy” that’s been the hallmark of the Obama administration.
