Voters at the polls in 2016 had an agonizing decision to make. Do you vote for one of the single most corrupt and dishonest politicians in modern American history — a woman who ruined the lives of her predator-husband’s alleged victims? Or do you pick the brash billionaire-cum-reality television star famous for multiple affairs, freely talking of preying on women, and resorting to racial animus while pushing his immigration policies?
The Electoral College chose the latter, and two years later, the moral cost of the Trump presidency has already been incurred. Between the rhetoric, the turmoil, the rage, and the temper, Trump has permanently transformed the presidency. We’re already seeing it in the Democratic presidential primary, where candidates haven’t taken the Michelle Obama route, but instead have themselves become rather Trumpy.
Trump is not a conservative. He’s delivered excellent judges, tax reform, a stellar criminal justice reform bill, and some major foreign policy victories for conservatives. He’s also waged an inane trade war and let his own bluster drown out the reverberation of his own successes. His polling indicates that this is the Democrats race to win. All they have to do is not be crazy.
But apparently they can’t even do that. And they’re not hovering around pushing public options or carbon taxes. Democrats now support nationalizing one-fifth of our economy with “Medicare for all,” initiating a federal jobs guarantee with the “Green New Deal,” chasing job creators out of the country with a wealth tax, and as of today, embracing literal murder of babies outside of the womb.
Following in the footsteps of New York’s disgusting law effectively permitting abortion up to birth, Virginia is trying their hand at legalizing abortion not just up to birth, but through and maybe even past birth. In a new radio interview, Gov. Ralph Northam discussed the extent of new Democratic legislation from Kathy Tran.
Absent a “Do Not Resuscitate” order, physicians are bound by the Hippocratic Oath to save lives in immediate danger. To not resuscitate a living baby would be tantamount to murder. Hell, it is murder, even by the pro-choice logic of her body, her choice. That’s a baby with indisputable Kantian value, a separate human being whose life is equal in value to everyone else.
You think Little Sisters of the poor was bad? You think making Jack Phillips bake the cake was bad? Just wait until New York demands that Christian, Muslim, Jewish, and any other pro-life doctors murder a fully developed fetus capable of pain. That’s not on the table yet, but consider how many gay marriage supporters — myself included — have been taken aback by law’s gradual mandate that individuals betray their personal beliefs. That’s where this all leads: not libertarianism and individual rights, but socialism and totalitarianism.
Voting a Democrat into office won’t undo Trump’s degradation of the presidency. But it could lead to the destruction of the American economy, the mass murder of American babies, and the flight of American job creators. Whereas 2016 was a question of which candidate would bring less dishonor to the White House, 2020 will be a question of which candidate will bring less death and destruction to the country.
By refusing to not be crazy, Democrats have transformed 2020 into a utilitarian election. We’re no longer voting on the preservation of the presidency, but the preservation of our nation.
