Abortion advocates and their cheerleaders in the press like to argue that the intentional killing of unborn children is not wrong because unborn children are not actual people yet. The New York Times, however, just gave the game away.
In a recent article about social policy and the Democrats’ proposed $3.5 trillion spending plan, the New York Times admitted that the funding congressional Democrats are proposing “would touch virtually every American, at every point in life, from conception to old age.”
Wait — what was that? “From conception to old age?” Does this mean that life does, in fact, begin at conception? Of course it does — but only when leftist-supported policies are involved.
The pro-choice movement likes to accuse pro-lifers of being hypocritical and inconsistent, of only supporting life in the womb but abandoning it after birth by opposing certain social policies, such as universal healthcare, that would theoretically protect it. But the fact is that abortion advocates are just as two-faced as they make pro-lifers out to be. They push policies they claim will help create strong families while supporting a practice that destroys millions of families every year. They claim to support a human-centered platform but oppose laws that would ensure human beings in the womb have the right to live.
Only one side of this debate has itself twisted into knots trying to keep its positions straight. I don’t claim to speak for all pro-lifers, but I know I would gladly support just about any leftist spending initiative — free college tuition, free childcare, you name it — if it meant banning abortions nationwide. Name your price, and I will say yes because life in all of its stages, from conception to old age, is that important.
Of course, we can and should debate whether policies such as universal healthcare would actually make life better and more secure. But we cannot have that debate honestly until both sides agree that life, from its beginning to its end, is something to be valued, honored, and protected. Unfortunately, abortion advocates are only willing to admit as much when it’s in their political interest to do so.
