What’s the difference between a lawyer, a doctor, and the leader of the free world? President Trump doesn’t ride a Harley Davidson, the expensive and iconic American motorcycles that start at no less than $6,849.
It was the first time that Trump went off script during Tuesday’s speech to a joint session of Congress, and he did it at his own expense and to some good-hearted laughs from members of Congress.
“I just met with officials and workers from a great American company, Harley-Davidson,” Trump said. “In fact, they proudly displayed five of their magnificent motorcycles, made in the USA, on the front lawn of the White House.”
But would the populist president hop on the back of the hog? “They wanted me to ride one and I said, ‘No thank you.'” That’s a line that wasn’t included in the president’s prepared remarks as they were released to the press and it was a winner.
At 70 years old, Trump’s chances of motorcycling are probably behind him. But his quip showed his lighter and authentic side. And that’s sure to win applause with the motorcycle riders in and out of Congress.
