In January, Sen. Elizabeth Warren challenged President Trump to “show his true colors,” asking whether he would “stand with working people” or “toss them overboard and cozy up with corporate CEOs…”
Speaking of cozying up with corporate CEOs, guess who was spotted at a donor retreat in Martha’s Vineyard hosted by the former CEO of UBS Investment Bank last Saturday.
None other than Elizabeth Warren.
As Brent Scher of the Washington Free Beacon reported, “Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.), one of the Senate’s fiercest Wall Street critics, attended a Democratic donor retreat over the weekend hosted by former UBS bank executive Robert Wolf.”
Wolf has written checks to many Democratic candidates and causes over the years, according to FEC records. As Scher noted, Wolf has also donated to the Clinton Foundation. Wolf frequently defends the business community and has criticized Warren in the past.
Last year Wolf told The Hill he was “tired” of hearing candidates paint Wall Street with a broad brush, remarking, “Wall Street are Americans just like everyone else. Please don’t stereotype us.”
In a May op-ed for Lena Dunham’s “Lenny” newsletter, Warren warned that, “if elected officials don’t hear from women like you here at Lenny, then policies will be set by the people they do hear from.”
“And, believe me,” Warren wrote, “they hear plenty from corporate CEOs, Wall Street, giant corporations, and others who spend lots of money to make sure that their interests are heard.”
Unfortunately for her, however, it looks a lot like Warren is the one doing the listening.
