Who: MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow.
What: Maddow insisted on her show Tuesday night that if a Republican wins the presidency this year, birth control will be declared illegal in multiple states. “[I]f you’re not [lucky],” she said, “you’ll be living in one of the states where birth control has just been declared illegal.”
Why its dim: This is apparently the red herring of the year. Not a single Republican candidate is calling for a ban on birth control, and in fact none has even raised the issue of Title X subsidies for it. The only context in which birth control is relevant right now is the one in which employers will be forced to provide it for free under Obamacare, their religious beliefs notwithstanding.
Cure: Less hysteria from the Left’s culture warriors, please.
