Professor Christine Blasey Ford came forward to accuse Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct dating back decades. Even though she could provide no meaningful corroborating evidence or witnesses, almost all elected Democrats branded Kavanaugh a rapist on the basis of the accusation alone, nearly derailing his nomination and destroying his reputation.
