One of the youngest House candidates had big fundraising haul

A 25-year-old female Republican congressional candidate announced raising more $100,000 from over 200 donors last month. Her campaign is reporting $90,000 in cash on hand.

At a time when the GOP is facing controversies at the top of the ticket that are unlikely to endear it to younger voters, Rebekah Johansen Bydlak’s six-figure haul is a rare bright spot.

The 25-year-old running for the House as a Democrat in California has gotten significant media coverage. Less attention has been paid to Bydlak in the Republican primary to replace retiring Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Fla. But she too could be the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, as well as the first to represent Florida’s 1st District.

First Bydlak, who has been working for the Coalition to Reduce Spending, would have to win the August 30 primary. It’s possible that her fundraising total will gain her increased attention from fiscal conservative groups nationally.
