A Biden presidency will move the US toward a far-left future

A nightmare scenario for conservatives is staring us right in the face.

It’s Jan. 20, 2021. In Washington, the weather is cold, the sky is gray, and snowflakes dust the ground. On the steps of the Capitol, Joe Biden places his right hand on the Bible and takes the oath of office to become the 46th president of the United States.

Biden’s allies cheer, knowing things are about to change massively in America, and these allies, once deemed too far-left and radical to be taken seriously, now have not only voices but seats at the table.

Early in his inaugural speech, Biden acknowledges socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders’s work on their joint policy program and applauds Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s hard work on his climate policy team. He promises them they’ll continue working in lockstep to make America a more liberal, equal place. He celebrates that his path to the presidency brought a majority in the Senate with it, giving Democrats a rare opportunity to reshape the U.S. in their image.

A few days later, Nancy Pelosi returns to the House of Representatives and retains her speaker’s gavel, but only barely. In order to win, Pelosi must make significant concessions to the emboldened liberals who know they have a golden moment to ram their agenda through to Biden’s desk.

Legislation once dead on arrival has new promise in a Democrat-run Senate. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is on the verge of eliminating the filibuster, so liberals get to work quickly to seize their moment.

But first, Pelosi and Schumer introduce legislation to cement their hold on power for years to come. Pelosi resurrects her first bill from the last Congress, the For the People Act, which nationalizes California’s ballot-harvesting programs. This legislation federalizes elections, automatically registers voters, drops ID requirements, restores felon voting rights, and allows unlimited ballots to be delivered by activists after Election Day, making the Republican Party’s return to power far more difficult.

Other bills once mocked by conservatives, such as the Green New Deal, amnesty for illegal immigrants, defense budget cuts, and the BREATHE Act, which abolishes ICE and the federal prison system, would no longer be aspirational liberal goals. With Biden as a figurehead president, it’s game time.

Together, Pelosi and Schumer begin the process of rubber-stamping legislation cutting private healthcare options for individuals, paving the way for government-controlled insurance and Veterans Affairs-style hospitals, lifting restrictions on abortion, raising taxes, and curtailing the right to own most firearms. To seal their majority, Democrats make D.C. the 51st state, delivering their party two more reliably blue Senate seats. The new Democratic majority in the Senate quickly processes one of the most liberal cabinets in history, with Vice President Kamala Harris and Sen. Elizabeth Warren leading the charge.

Two additional Supreme Court justices are added under a bill creating an 11-justice court, securing all three federal branches of government for the Left. Statues of Founding Fathers such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson are removed from the public square. Cancel culture, particularly for conservatives who dare question the Left’s tactics, is kicked into overdrive.

All of this will occur while blue check marks on Twitter and talking heads on CNN say that fascism and authoritarianism have seemingly disappeared overnight. The reality will be quite different. By the time Democrats are finished, conservative voices will be squashed, and there will be no way for them to come back.

If conservative voters, activists, donors, and party wise men across the country don’t get their heads in the game, this is the reality America will face. Under a Biden presidency, the liberal agenda of the past two years won’t just be a bunch of tweets from Bernie and “the Squad,” it will be law. These laws will fundamentally change the trajectory of our country, possibly forever, toward a far-left future.

Wake up, Republicans. On Nov. 3, turn out to vote. If you don’t like President Trump’s personality or his tweets, it’s time to get over it. For the past two years, I’ve had a front-row seat in the Pelosi-led House of Representatives on what the Left is going to pass into law and how they are going to cement power so that their laws can never be undone. I can tell you it isn’t enjoyable to watch.

America cannot afford a Biden presidency. It wouldn’t move our country forward. It would move it completely off track.

Rep. Michael Waltz, a Republican, represents Florida’s 6th District in Congress. He is the first Green Beret to be elected to the House of Representatives.
