Is there a more delusional group of people than those who support Jussie Smollett? From Samuel L. Jackson to Black Lives Matter to the state’s attorney who handled the case, all have called for justice not to be served in this case largely because of the color of Smollett’s skin. To them, crimes by black people shouldn’t matter.
The state’s attorney of Cook County, Illinois, who originally handled the Smollett case, Kim Foxx, said the justice system “failed” for the actor because Smollett’s prosecution was “damaging, costly, and disingenuous.” If anybody was damaging and disingenuous during the Smollett case, it was Foxx. Once it became clear Smollett had lied to police and staged a fake hate crime, Foxx dropped the case and tried to make it disappear. It took a Cook County judge to appoint a special prosecutor to make sure the people of Chicago got justice. If it were up to Foxx, Smollett would have been free to commit all the fake hate crimes he wanted.
The Smollett saga is indicative of the impact the Left has had on America’s society: a bunch of privileged people claiming to be victims and pleading to not be held accountable for their criminal acts. But even more delusional were the statements from Smollett’s family.
“He’s in jail for five months. That is unacceptable for being attacked,” Smollett’s brother said. “My brother Jussie is innocent. This should not be a controversial statement because it is the absolute truth,” his sister said. They should tell it to the jury that convicted their brother.
But the coup-de-grace of outlandish comments belonged to Smollett’s grandmother. She managed to link Russian President Vladimir Putin to her grandson’s ordeal and “threats to our democracy.” She believed the police should focus on “white-collar guys who are marking money, who are really corrupt.”
“We have to do something about saving our democracy here, so we don’t get another Putin,” Smollett’s grandmother said.
Fortunately, or unfortunately for the pro-Smollett crowd, actions do have consequences. Faking hate crimes is an egregious act, and Smollett was held accountable. Smollett will have 150 days to dote on his criminal behavior, and he will do that in the same cell as the person responsible for his attack and subsequent imprisonment.
