When asked to name Matt Lauer’s “most annoying habit,” Katie Couric once answered that her longtime Today show co-host, “pinches me on the ass a lot.”
Couric was playing “Plead the Fifth” on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live” with host Andy Cohen in June of 2012. The game involves Cohen asking his guests a series of questions, only one of which they’re permitted to skirt by “pleading the fifth.”
After Cohen asked her about Lauer’s most annoying habit, Couric paused a beat and replied, “He pinches me on the ass a lot.”
Couric, who left “Today” in 2006, made the comment with a deadpan delivery, but broke into a smile by the end of her answer, triggering laughter from the audience and a “wow” from Cohen.
A clip of the segment began resurfacing on Wednesday following the news that Lauer had been fired earlier in the morning after a colleague lodged a complaint accusing him of what NBC described as “inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace.” A video of the full segment, however, is available on Bravo’s website here.
