President Joe Biden’s delegation to the Holy See tweeted out a photo this week of the U.S. Embassy flying a rainbow flag to signal the embassy’s celebration of gay pride in June.

This is the embassy’s third rainbow flag tweet in six weeks. The embassy also tweeted out the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia and declared support for “LGBTQI+ persons” in an April retweet, expressing support for folks who want to declare neither gender on passports.
So, if the U.S. Embassy to the Vatican has made it clear that it opposes discrimination and supports LGBT people, what’s the added meaning of the flag and the gay pride tweet? Is this not simply part of an endless effort to highlight the Biden administration’s opposition to Catholic teaching on sex and sexuality?
The embassy’s explanation echoed Christian ethics: “The United States respects and promotes the equality and human dignity of all people including the LGBTQIA+ community,” the tweet reads.
Radical human equality and the inalienable dignity of the individual are Christian teachings. In fact, these concepts exist in Europe and the United States largely thanks to two millennia of Christianity. The church has not always lived up to the ideals preached by Christ, so there’s plenty to be said for church outreach to gay people.
But the Biden administration’s gay pride agenda cannot be interpreted honestly as a call for dignity and equality. They are waging a culture war, and Catholic teaching is their enemy.
How do we know? The administration’s actions make it clear. “Combating discrimination on the basis of gender identity or sexual orientation,” when uttered by the Biden administration, means that schools need to go along with the radical claims of gender ideology and treat boys as girls if they want to identify as such — or else they’ll lose federal funding to feed students.
The Biden administration celebrated 2021’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Pride Month by touting this transgender mandate, which would mean school children could go hungry if a principal refuses to play by the rules of transgender ideology.
So when the Biden administration flies the rainbow flag at the Vatican to celebrate Pride Month, it is shooting a round of artillery at the church. Biden’s administration is saying, “We consider the standard, scientific, and traditional view of gender, including the view that God created us man and woman, as bigoted beyond tolerability. We use our clout to bend the unwilling to our radical new definition of sex and gender. Beware.”
In other words, the Biden administration’s rainbow flag isn’t a call for tolerance and dignity and equality. It is an act of colonialism.
The Biden State Department is at the Vatican in order to enlighten the beknighted natives and save them from their old-fashioned beliefs.
