Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, has drawn a primary challenger, and the local media coverage have painted a clear picture that a major motivation is King’s support for Ted Cruz, an opponent of the federal ethanol mandate, as I posted yesterday.
The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, one of the pro-ethanol groups in Iowa, is making it clear that it isn’t playing in this primary — either for or against King. “Rep. King has been, and continues to be, a strong supporter of renewable fuels policy in Congress,” the IRFA said in a release this afternoon. “After recently discussing all of Iowa’s federal primaries, the IRFA Board decided, as has been its custom in the past, it will not take an active role in any federal primary this year.”
