OKLAHOMA CITY — Dr. Ben Carson wants to cut federal spending, but certainly not defense spending. Defense cuts are an “idiotic” idea, Carson told me in a brief interview from the Southern Republican Leadership Conference. This matched the view held by an overwhelming majority of the conservative southern crowd assembled at the conference — that America’s military is being starved, endangering the country.
Carson also spoke on immigration, running against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and his flat tax program — which he granted would mean a tax increase for millions of Americans.
