Sinking Ship — Sept. 7, 2008

Jack Abramoff, the former freewheeling lobbyist who admitted he “happily and arrogantly engaged in a lifestyle of political and business corruption,” was sentenced this week to four more years in prison. He could have gotten 11 years but the judge credited him for helping the FBI. The judged refused to credit his time already served in a Florida casino fraud case. The 49-year-old Abramoff, who told the judge he was now “a broken man,” was convicted in 2006 of conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government and corrupt public officials.
