Though the author of a Washington Post report on President Trump’s budget proposal may not have intended to make the plan sound great to conservatives, that’s exactly what he did.
The Post article published this weekend, titled “Trump budget expected to seek historic contraction of federal workforce,” details the president’s ambitious plan to reduce the size of the federal government, which the paper claims is the largest such effort since the end of World War II.
The budget proposal calls for significant cuts to many federally funded activities, “including housing, foreign assistance, environmental programs, public broadcasting and research,” but it also calls for a renewed focus on military and homeland security spending.
The Post article quotes experts who say the cuts and subsequent federal layoffs could have a devastating effect on many Americans. The picture they paint is not a pretty one.
However, the Post may have unwittingly distracted their conservative-leaning readers early on in the report when it described his proposal in these words:
Simply put, government would be smaller and less involved in regulating life in America, with private companies and states playing a much bigger role.
Promise?
