WHO: Fathers
WHAT: Hundreds of fathers in Maryland are refusing to take responsibility for their actions: They don’t pay child support. A recent advertisement showing Baltimore City’s top offenders included several men who owed more than $30,000. One man topped out at $111,859.56.

WHY IT’S A BAD IDEA: With children comes the responsibility to care for them. It doesn’t matter if you need to work three jobs to do it. Kudos to Baltimore City and surrounding counties that publish photos of offenders’ faces for the public to see. Child support violators do not deserve a pass and should not be able to hide.

Today’s bright bulb: Hopkins revolutionizes hysterectomies
Johns Hopkins has done it again: They’ve found a way to make a mentally and physically debilitating surgery easier on patients. This time it’s hysterectomies. The normally invasive surgery leaves a large scar and a long recovery time in its wake — not to mention complications including depression. The new method uses a robot and leaves behind five small scars that one patient described as looking like mosquito bites. It even allows the patient to go home one day after the surgery.
