What happened to presidents attacking the press being a fascist threat to our democracy?
When President Donald Trump was in office, he frequently criticized the media. He frequently pointed out the media’s lies, hypocrisy, and left-wing, agenda-driven news coverage — and they hated him for it. Between assertions of “fake news” and claims of their agenda-driven reporting being the “enemy of the state,” many on the Left lambasted Trump’s criticisms as a threat to democracy.
Note that this was going on even as they were publishing multiple false stories. The media even awarded themselves Pulitzer prizes for wasting ink on an entire Russia collusion story that made conspiracy theorists of out half of America and turned out to be a complete hoax — the result of Democratic dirty tricks.
Now President Joe Biden has launched a similar condemnation of journalists who merely dared ask him tough questions, and not one media outlet is holding him to the standards they held Trump.
In an excerpt from the forthcoming book, This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden, and the Battle for America’s Future, President Joe Biden allegedly called Fox News “one of the most destructive forces in the United States.”
Additionally, he reportedly called Fox News kingpin Rupert Murdoch “the most dangerous man in the world.” The caveat here is that Fox News is considered a right-wing news source. As such, any and all criticism of Fox News or anyone associated with it is fair game. It’s only when a president criticizes news outlets sympathetic to leftist political causes that it becomes a threat to democracy.
In truth, Trump’s disdain for the media was never any threat to anyone or anything. It just made left-wing politicians, pundits, and their accomplices in the press fearful they might lose the grip on the monopoly that controls what news stories the public sees.
The “threat to democracy” was really a threat to the media’s left-wing programming of the public mind. That is why they vilified Trump’s criticism of the media so much and also why they ignore Biden’s.
