Is it any wonder that Los Angeles is a failing city?

The Los Angeles City Council’s racism scandal has uncovered a corruption scandal as well.

With leaders like this, is it any wonder Los Angeles is a disaster?

The racist comments from three members of the City Council, caught on a recording, exposed the racial brain-rot of progressive politics that has taken hold in the Democratic Party. The three Hispanic councilmembers targeted their white colleague, his black son, and their black colleagues for criticism, as well as other Hispanics who did not sufficiently support their political agenda.

LOS ANGELES BLACK LEADERS DEMAND INVESTIGATION AND EXITS AFTER ‘RACIST’ NURY MARTINEZ LEAK

As my colleague Quin Hillyer noted, “When people think according to race, they speak and act according to race. And the word for thinking, speaking, and acting according to race is ‘racism.’”

That brain-rot runs deep in today’s Democratic Party, but the problem goes deeper. Those three councilmembers and the labor leader to whom they were speaking were seeking to carve up the city’s electoral districts that are represented by black leaders and to give Hispanic leaders certain areas to boost their influence and fundraising abilities.

This was not idle banter. The New York Times notes that Councilwoman Nithya Raman’s district was “significantly redrawn to be less favorable to her reelection after she was mentioned on the recording as ‘not an ally.’”

As a result of the recording, California Attorney General Rob Bonta is investigating the city’s redistricting.

This racist rat race has been taking place while Los Angeles has been falling apart. The first half of 2022 left the city on pace for its highest homicide tally in 15 years. The city’s homeless population has grown to nearly 42,000, to the point that the city has resorted to moving homeless people out of the way when hosting award shows or the Super Bowl.

Los Angeles ranks second on the list of cities residents want to depart from, because it is unsafe, unhealthy, and increasingly too expensive to live in. Test scores in the city continue to decline. City leadership is failing by nearly every relevant metric, but councilmembers are more concerned with skin color and political power than they are with fixing any of those challenges.

Between the racism and the corruption, it is no surprise that LA’s Democratic leadership has continued to ruin the city. This is the natural endpoint of progressive Democratic politics. Despite these scandals, the pursuit of power and racial division will continue to cause decay in Los Angeles until voters decide to take a different path.
