SNL lionizes an anti-vaxxer and a serial assaulter to own Trump

Prior to then-NBC boss Jeff Zucker reinventing an utter failure of a businessman into a Hollywood superstar cosplaying as an entrepreneur, Donald Trump was mostly famous for, aside from the gilded casinos and high-rises, cheating on his multiple wives, and engaging in such promiscuity that the draft-dodger branded his evasion of sexually transmitted diseases his own “personal Vietnam.” Thus, it’s not hard to find the humor in religious conservatives discarding the devoutly Mormon Mitt Romney for a man whose sex life has been on the national record for more than a quarter-century.

Yet, not five years after Trump’s former cheerleaders gave the avowed birther who launched his presidential campaign branding most Mexican immigrants “rapists” and “murderers” a prime spot hosting Saturday Night Live, the late-night show plucked two of the most despicable troglodytes of Manhattan to lampoon the president. Alec Baldwin, the kind-hearted gent who called his 11-year-old daughter a “rude, thoughtless little pig” who didn’t have “the brains or the decency as a human being,” has reprised his hackneyed iteration of the Republican, and Jim Carrey, one of the most consequential anti-vaxxers in modern history, is playing Joe Biden.

There’s hardly a class of cretins more contemptible than the swamp monsters who wish for nothing more than to have power over you and me. In fact, the celebrity class might be the only one worse, and SNL somehow managed to insult both Trump and Biden in their corrosive casting of the two septuagenarians.

Back when Baldwin was arrested for punching a man in the face for taking a parking spot he wanted, I wrote up a brief summary of the actor’s pattern of abusive behavior. Here’s a sample of the conduct that makes Trump look like a choir boy:

In 1992, Baldwin called a horse-drawn carriage driver who was advocating for expanding rides outside of Central Park a ‘f—–.’ … In 2011, Baldwin was kicked off a flight for refusing to quit playing the game ‘Words with Friends’ and having a tantrum thereafter. In 2012, Baldwin punched a New York Daily News photographer in Lower Manhattan. The next year, Baldwin chased down a photographer in New York, screaming and calling him a ‘cock sucking f–.’ Also in 2013, he smacked a camera out of a photographer’s hand, threatening him, ‘you don’t want to get hurt, do ya?’ Still in the same year — man, was this guy busy — Baldwin threatened reporter Tara Palmeri, telling her ‘I want you to choke to death.’ In 2014, Baldwin was pulled over for biking the wrong way on the streets of Manhattan and subsequently arrested for disorderly conduct after having a meltdown.

The most shocking part of this saga is that Trump managed to get the better side of the deal. Baldwin may have a little blood on his hands from rage-fueled meltdowns, but his counterpart Carrey has an ocean to pay for.

For starters, Carrey and his ex-girlfriend Jenny McCarthy are more responsible for mainstreaming the vile pseudoscience of anti-vaxxing as fabricated by Andrew Wakefield than anyone else on the planet. For years, Carrey and McCarthy used the sycophancy of celebrity to spread not just the lie that perfectly safe and lifesaving vaccines such as the MMR vaccine caused autism, but also the notion that it’s preferable to have a child dead of measles than an alive and neurodiverse one. Carrey’s lies were so beyond the pale that the Huffington Post deplatformed a manifesto of his because it posed such an egregious threat to public safety.

And unlike the serial monogamist he portrays or even the serial philanderer he loathes, Carrey failed at his own personal Vietnam, allegedly passing on multiple incurable STDs to an ex of his that he abused. The ex’s family took Carrey to court after she committed suicide with drugs reportedly obtained from Carrey.

Trump and Biden don’t deserve much, but even they deserve better than these two bozos.
