Elizabeth Warren is going to be the last man standing

If President Trump goes down, he’s taking Joe Biden with him, which means the last man standing might just be Elizabeth Warren.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi got behind an impeachment inquiry Tuesday after a whistleblower released a report detailing potentially corrupt dealings between Trump and Ukraine. Trump asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to dig up dirt on Biden and his family — an allegation confirmed by the transcript released by the White House today. Whether this is an impeachable offense Congress must now decide.

This whole mess started with Biden, who admitted to making similar quid pro quo demands when he was vice president. The result has been a tug of war between the sitting president and the front-runner for the Democratic nomination with Congress in between. It looks like a lose-lose fight, unless you remember the real winner: Warren.

She’s up in the polls already, surging past Biden in California by 8 points. Nationally, she’s up 8 points from August. A new Quinnipiac University survey has her at 27%, compared to Biden’s 25%.

And no wonder! The Ukraine scandal confirms what Warren has been saying all along: Politics is a rigged game that benefits the few establishment insiders. Warren might be an insider herself, but she’s managed to keep her distance just enough to win over the progressive outsiders.

She’s successfully building a coalition of entrenched politicos and disenchanted voters, and Trump and Biden are helping her do it. If Warren’s newfound momentum holds, she might just waltz into the Democratic nomination and then the White House.
