Agents catch child sex predators at border while Senate GOP ponders philosophy of building border wall

U.S. Border Patrol agents in Texas said they caught two undocumented immigrants on Monday re-entering the U.S. who had previously been convicted of child sex crimes. This happened while Senate Republicans debated whether to hand over immigration policy to Democrats.

Border agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector of Texas, where agents have told me they are in desperate need of more physical border barriers to slow down illegal border crossings, said they apprehended a Guatemalan man illegally crossing into the U.S. who had a conviction in California for “use of underage person for obscene nature.”

In other words, he was caught with child pornography.

Agents further said that last Thursday they arrested a Mexican man after he had crossed illegally into the U.S. A background check showed he had a prior conviction in Houston for “indecency with a child by exposure.” Under Texas law that means the man either exposed his genitals to a child or made the child expose their naked body to him.

President Trump earlier this month declared a national emergency on the border, permitting the administration to piece together funds allocated to the executive branch and direct them to the construction of more border wall intended precisely to keep these people out.

House Democrats responded Tuesday by voting to block Trump’s order, and now even some Senate Republicans are saying they might do the same when it’s taken up in their chamber.

The two criminals mentioned above aren’t even the beginning. Rapists, child molesters, drug dealers, and gang members are caught regularly in just this one border sector, of which there are eight others.

This is to say nothing of the perverts and lowlifes that agents don’t catch.

Republicans might take a moment to think about that while pondering whether they want to oppose Trump’s wall and give Democrats control over immigration.
