Kanye West is a misguided if not unhinged talent who typically plies his lyrical genius to complex questions of booty, dope, and money. His recent foray into politics and support of free expression, though laudable and welcome, are extremely questionable.
Hopped up on Dragon Energy, Kanye has flirted with conservatism, liberalism, and populism at once. He quotes libertarian economist Thomas Sowell, and then declares a high school student with gun-grabber tendencies his hero. He could use a intellectual guide.
Enter Candace Owens, the communications director of Turning Point USA.
Owens among others inspired Kanye to experiment with conservatism or at least to question the anti-free speech groupthink that has become so common place. Turning Point USA is a massively influential student group with 350 chapters nationally, an $8 million budget, and the ear of the President of the U.S.
Owens and her boss at Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk, fancy themselves in the same mold as William F. Buckley. They try to make conservativism cool (as if limited government, a strong national defense, and pro-family policies weren’t hip enough already).
It seems that Owens is at risk of leading Kanye down into a crackpot cul de sac or an alt-right dead end. She made it clear Wednesday that she wouldn’t turn down an invitation to join him on InfoWars. She has been a guest before.
1) I am not on Infowars today.
2) Disrespecting any platform watched by millions is silly.
3) Please stop telling me and/or Kanye “no”, “can’t” or “shouldn’t”.Advice appreciated. Commands shut down. https://t.co/2jVNIpzS4k

Jones is the prominent conspiracy theorist who thinks that Satanists are taking over America, that Bill Gates is a eugenicist hell bent on the extinction of minorities, and that Hillary Clinton ran a child sex ring out of a Washington pizzeria. He claims also that Glenn Beck is a CIA operative and that chemicals are turning the frogs gay.
In short, Jones is not someone to be taken seriously and neither is Turning Point USA if Owens appears with Kanye on that show.
Turning Point USA has been more than willing to lend their influence to this administration. During a recent interview of the president, Kirk even let Trump belittle the threat to free speech on college campus, their defining issue. If Kirk lets Owens accompany Kanye on InfoWars it will be further proof that his organization is long divorced of any principle and simply seeking influence for influence’s sake.
The frogs are not gay and Alex Jones will always be a conspiracy monger. Kanye West went a little crazy and Turning Point USA will forever be disreputable if they whore his celebrity to get attention.
