Beyond outrage: A ‘kill or be killed’ mentality and ‘giving back’

DIM BULB False charity

The latest political trend in Maryland is for elected officials to get raises and pledge to give the extra money to charity. A better solution would be to return that money to taxpayers. In times when many face pay freezes or job losses, the generous thing to do would be to give back to those who pay the salaries of public officials.

Outrage: ‘Kill or be killed’

WHO: Antajuan Wilson

WHAT: Wilson, on trial for murder, thought it would be a good idea to stare down the state’s key witness and smile confidently throughout his trial, which ended with a Howard County jury finding him guilty of murder.

WHY IT’S A BAD IDEA: This is the same witness who came out with such verbal gems as “Kill or be killed, you know what I’m saying?” when accusing the man he confessed to killing of “talking slick” with a gun. Are the penalties for murder so lax that people don’t even take their trials seriously?

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Right there. Girls standing there. They continued to laugh. Blood’s all over him. People come back in and get their orders. It’s like business as usual. Clearly … we have some very mentally disturbed individuals in the city.”

– Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon, speaking about a convenience-store security camera video showing girls laughing as a man is shot in the head
