What a difference an endorsement makes.
Rep. Tammy Duckworth, who is running for U.S. Senate against incumbent Sen. Mark Kirk, was once adamant about having Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton testify before Congress about Benghazi. But now, weeks after Clinton endorsed Duckworth, the Illinois Democrat thinks the Benghazi Committee should be disbanded, without having the former secretary of state testify again.
It wasn’t that long ago that Duckworth was publicly suggesting that Clinton testify a second time before Congress about what happened on Sept. 11, 2012 that resulted in the death of four Americans including the ambassador to Libya. In a press conference in early April announcing her bid for the senate, Duckworth said Clinton should testify.
“But I’ve looked at this, you know, I’m on the Oversight Committee, I’m on Benghazi committee, I’m on Armed Services, I think transparency is better and she needs to come before the Benghazi committee and testify as well,” Duckworth said.
Fast forward six months, and Duckworth is now saying the Benghazi committee should “wrap up … as soon as possible” and that Republicans were just trying “to score political points” against Clinton.
What happened in between? Well, earlier this month Clinton endorsed Duckworth by telling supporters that she “should be the next senator from Illinois.” Duckworth was naturally thrilled by the endorsement, as her campaign spokesman said she “appreciates Secretary Clinton’s kind words.”
So much for that “transparency” Duckworth cared about earlier this year, huh?
