Rupert Murdoch is right. ‘Awful woke orthodoxy’ is killing the media

Rupert Murdoch, the Australian media mogul who owns Fox News, said something over the weekend that every journalist in the United States should understand: that the media are killing themselves by succumbing to the social justice mob.

The New York Times reported on Monday that Murdoch made the remarks in a recorded video for the Australia Day Foundation nonprofit group that had presented him with an award.

“For those of us in media, there’s a real challenge to confront,” he said, “a wave of censorship that seeks to silence conversation, to stifle debate, to ultimately stop individuals and societies from realizing their potential.”

He went on to say that “rigidly enforced conformity, aided and abetted by so-called social media, is a straitjacket on sensibility” and that “too many people have fought too hard in too many places for freedom of speech to be suppressed by this awful woke orthodoxy.”

It’s all true, made more depressing by the fact that experienced editors and executives at most of our biggest newsrooms and news channels have welcomed that sick ideology, otherwise known as social justice, with open arms.

The result really is the silencing of any voice deemed to have “privilege” by anyone who claims to be a victim. Murdoch understands what everyone else in the media needs to figure out, too.
