Lena Dunham defends Kellyanne Conway against attacks on her looks

Despite her pledge to leave the country if Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton, Lena Dunham is still in America — and now she’s standing up for Kellyanne Conway.

“Insulting another woman’s appearance, even one you ideologically disdain, isn’t moving the needle forward. Seems crazy to have to explain,” she tweeted. “I’m no saint but I don’t, for example, get sassy about Kellyanne Conway’s looks.”

“It muddies the waters and prevents real discourse,” Dunham explained.

When Lena Dunham is lecturing the Left on productive political discourse, it’s a sad reflection on the state of the Resistance.

Conway is, of course, subject to incessant attacks from Trump opponents specifically targeting her physical appearance. Just this week, “Saturday Night Live” (and “The View”) alluded to Conway being kept in a crypt and mocked Sarah Sanders’ wardrobe.

Dunham later wondered whether this was indicative of a larger insincerity regarding society’s desire to engage in “real discourse.”

It is. But it’s rich to finally hear that observation from a person who once cut a campaign ad encouraging women to vote for Barack Obama by comparing it to the loss of their virginity.
