Hillary Clinton may have a Colorado woman problem

Hillary Clinton is not well-liked by Colorado women, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

The poll found the former secretary of state trailing each of the top four GOP presidential candidates (Donald Trump, Dr. Ben Carson and Sens. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio) by double digits.

Even worse news for Clinton, who is making her womanhood a central part of her campaign and won’t stop reminding people of her gender, is that women in Colorado prefer nearly every top GOP candidate to her.

In head-to-head matchups, GOP candidates garnered more of the women vote than Clinton. Carson had the support of 48 percent of female respondents, while Clinton took 43 percent. Clinton does especially poorly among white women, who went for Carson 52 percent to Clinton’s 42 percent.

Against Trump, Clinton does better with women, tying the billionaire hotel magnate with 44 percent of the women vote. White women, however, preferred Trump 48 percent to Clinton’s 43 percent.

Rubio did the best of any of the GOP candidates when it came to women, with 50 percent preferring him and just 41 percent preferring Clinton. Fifty-four percent of white women preferred Rubio, while just 39 percent preferred Clinton.

Cruz garnered 48 percent of female respondents while Clinton secured 43 percent. White women went for Cruz 53 percent to Clinton’s 41 percent.

Clinton does far better than rival candidate Bernie Sanders when it comes to women, with 56 percent of women preferring Clinton to the Vermont senator’s 28 percent.

Women also preferred Clinton’s rival Sanders in certain head-to-head matchups against Republicans. Against Trump, women preferred Sanders 47 percent to Trump’s 44 percent. White women still preferred Trump 47 percent to 46 percent.

Sanders also did marginally better than Clinton among women up against Rubio, collecting 42 percent against Rubio’s 49 percent. Yet again, white women preferred Rubio 52 percent to 41 percent.

Sanders also did better among white women against Cruz than Clinton did. Sanders pulled in 43 percent of white women to Cruz’s 50 percent.

But the bad news for Clinton doesn’t end there. She is deeply unpopular with women in the Centennial State, with a favorability rating of just 38 percent among women and an unfavorable rating of 55 percent. Among white women, she has a 37 percent favorable rating and a 60 percent unfavorable rating.

The only candidate with a worse favorable/unfavorable rating among women than Clinton was Trump, underwater 29 percent to 64 percent.

Even though Clinton gets 56 percent of female registered Democrats, they have a higher opinion of Sanders. Thirty-nine percent of women had a favorable view of Sanders, compared to 34 percent with an unfavorable view.

Cruz was also underwater with women when it comes to favorability, with 33 percent holding a favorable view of the candidate and 35 percent holding an unfavorable view.

Rubio did the best when it comes to women, with a 44 percent favorable rating and a 26 percent negative rating.

Women also don’t trust Clinton. Thirty-three percent find her to be “honest and trustworthy.” Again the only candidate trusted less is Trump, but just barely, with 32 percent believing he is honest.

Women also don’t believe Clinton shares their values and believes she cares less about the problems they face than Rubio and Carson.

This is just one poll. It could be an outlier. But for a candidate who’s making her womanhood a central part of her campaign, it should serve as a wakeup call that something might not be going right.
