Elizabeth Warren is suddenly very concerned about abortion

Let me make one thing clear: If Michael Bloomberg did indeed tell a former pregnant female employee to “kill” her unborn child, he deserves to lose the vote of every single Democratic, Republican, independent, and centrist American.

Elizabeth Warren made this point during Tuesday’s Democratic debate and claimed that she, as the alleged victim of pregnancy discrimination, can sympathize with the female employees subjected to alleged sexism while working for Bloomberg’s corporations.

“I was 21 years old. I didn’t have a union to protect me. I didn’t have any federal law on my side. So I packed up my stuff, and I went home,” Warren said, describing an incident she says she experienced as a 21-year-old teacher and expecting mother. “But at least I didn’t have a boss who said to me, ‘Kill it.’ That’s what Bloomberg said to one of his female employees.”

There’s just one problem with Warren’s anecdote: She, like every other Democrat on that stage, supports open-ended access to abortion, which is the taking of a human life — whether she’ll admit it or not.

The difference, of course, is that Warren is advocating for the right to choose, and the accusation is that Bloomberg tried to pressure his female employee into making the choice to have an abortion. Even so, Warren’s continued support for radical, expanded abortion rights is, in its own way, an argument against life. It is a moral judgment — one that often prioritizes convenience at the expense of human rights. Warren’s rhetoric might be more poetic than Bloomberg’s, but the principle of the message is the same.

It’s disappointing that the only time Warren seems to care about life is when she’s trying to score a few points against her opponents. Life is not a selective value that deserves attention when the moment is right. It is a sacred gift that requires daily commitment and lifelong sacrifice. If Warren can’t live up to that standard, she shouldn’t pass judgment on others who have similarly failed.

Our unborn children deserve better, and so do Democratic voters.
