Comedian Hasan Minhaj took shots at President Trump’s abstention from drinking alcohol at the White House Correspondents’ dinner Saturday night.
“I love that everybody’s drinking [and] having a good time. This is beautiful,” the “Daily Show” correspondent told the hundreds of journalists wining and dining inside the ballroom of the Washington Hilton. “You know Donald Trump doesn’t drink, right?”
“He doesn’t touch alcohol, which is oddly respectable,” Minhaj said. “But think about that, it means that every statement, every interview, every tweet: completely sober. How is that possible?”
But on the campaign trail, Trump explained numerous times why he lays off the sauce. His older brother, Fred Trump, died of alcoholism. “He would tell me, ‘Don’t ever drink. Don’t ever drink,” Trump explained in a 2016 Newsweek interview.
And according to Minhaj, Trump’s teetotaling leaves the president without an alibi.

“We’ve all had that excuse haven’t we?” the comic asked the crowd. “We’ve been like ‘I said what? No, listen babe, I swear to you I was hammered, that’s not who I really am.’ What does Donald Trump tell Melania? ‘Listen babe, last year on that bus with Billy Bush, that’s exactly who I am.'”
