Want to redeem your election lies? Tell the truth now and demand insurrectionists stay out of DC

Just days ago, the nation was seconds away from seeing the executions of members of the United States Congress at the hands of insurrectionist thugs gleefully chanting that they would hang Mike Pence. And with the capital’s heightened security measures for entire days surrounding Joe Biden’s inauguration, the worst could be yet to come. President Trump spent two months lying to millions of his supporters that the election was stolen, and politicians like Josh Hawley angling for a 2024 run bet that they could go along with it.

The primary promulgators cannot and will not redeem themselves, but if the sheep of Congress who just blew up their fundraising prospects want to save their careers and maybe their morality, they can come out hard and warn MAGAites that not only is Biden the duly and legitimately elected choice for president, but also that they will be met with the full force of the law if they decide to descend upon the capital, during the middle of a global pandemic, no less. Otherwise, we’re looking at another superspreader terrorist attack in Washington, D.C.

In a sane world, parties would have the spine to expunge every member of Congress who voted to rob an election for the Electoral Congress. But in that same world, Bill Clinton and Al Sharpton wouldn’t be kingmakers of the Democratic Party, and Ilhan Omar wouldn’t be considered a rising star. So if conservatives want a feasible task at hand, demanding that the election conspiracy theorists retract and call for peace is a pretty easy litmus test to siphon off the remorseful from the shameless.

Reports of the Capitol storming now show just how close hundreds of members of Congress were to being beaten by fire extinguishers and Molotoved to death. If weak kneed Republicans want to undo the wrong of their blood-stained lies, they can stop another siege of the place they are supposed to protect.
