The polarization over masks in the coronavirus era is well documented. It’s a gross oversimplification to put it this way, but Democrats seem to favor making everyone wear them, while Republicans oppose them.
Studies vary as to how well masks work. But given that COVID-19 is transmitted person to person through respiratory droplets, there is an obvious logical appeal. Still, the recent tweets from Education Secretary Miguel Cardona on Sept. 27 are just the latest example of this controversy and why Democrats cannot be trusted on the issue.
Cardona tweeted: “A Wisconsin study found that schools that required masking had a 37% lower incidence of COVID-19 than the surrounding community.” Cardona then tweeted a link to the study, published long ago on Jan. 26. Cardona also probably thought that few people, if any, would read or understand the study.
Dr. Tracy Hoeg, a senior author of the study, responded by tweeting: “Our study is not able to give any information about the role masks played in the observed low in-school transmission rates. We had no control group so don’t know if the rate would have been different without masks.”
In this instance, it would appear that Democrats and the Biden administration are not actually “following the science” but rather creating it.
When Donald Trump was president, the public was told that misinformation was unacceptable. People’s claims that were allegedly not supported by science had their speech stifled by Big Tech. They were mocked and ridiculed by Democratic politicians and left-wing pundits in the media. Yet under President Joe Biden, the reverse appears to be true. Such punitive actions have yet to be taken against Cardona. My guess is they never will.
Over 700,000 Americans have died from COVID-19. The people deserve to know the best way of protecting themselves from infection. However, Democrats are not interested in the truth. They only care about advancing narratives that benefit them. People dying by the hundreds of thousands do not matter to them — only their thirst for power does.
If masks are effective, then public health officials should support the position with facts. Instead, Democrats have been playing games since the earliest days of the pandemic. Remember Biden’s tweet on Feb. 1 calling Trump xenophobic the day after he banned travel from China? These games do nothing but prolong suffering and death and create credibility issues and have led to tensions that were never necessary.
This is why Democrats cannot be trusted regarding the pandemic. Contrary to what they claim, they don’t believe in science or the truth. They believe in perpetual misinformation to create false narratives so they can advance their agenda. Furthermore, and most importantly, the standards they hold Republicans to, they do not follow themselves. They don’t care about trusting the science — they just care about obtaining the power.
