What: He dissed the national anthem — particularly its closing line, “And the home of the brave.” “Are we the only ones who are brave on the planet? I mean, ‘All the brave people live here!’ It’s just stupid. I’m embarrassed every time I hear it.”
Why it’s dim: What a great way to celebrate the bicentennial of the War of 1812, when the national anthem was written after America’s successful defense of Fort McHenry.
Cure: Maybe Press would approve more of “God Save the Queen,” which he might have been singing today if “the brave” hadn’t held off the British.
