Today’s outrage: Molesting minors

WHO: Howard County Public School System officials

WHAT: The tally of Howard teachers charged with sexually abusing their students has risen to four teachers between September 2006 and now. The most recent addition, Robert Douglas Johnston, a Mount Hebron teacher, is charged with sexual abuse of a minor, third- and fourth-degree sex offenses and obscene telephone misuse. The abuse allegedly took place over a two-year period.

WHY IT’S A BAD IDEA: Did school system officials have no evidence for two years of the abuse? Did no one speak up about even a hunch? If officials were aware of improper conduct and did not investigate Johnston immediately, they should be dismissed. Parents, at the very least, must know their children are safe at school.

WHERE TO VENT: Call the chairman of the Howard School Board at 443-878-9317.

Today’s dim bulb: Adult entertainment at Chuck E. Cheese’s

Much has been made of the 4-year-old who found a condom at a Chuck E. Cheese’s birthday party. The manager should have bent over backward to erase the incident. No one wants to see a 4-year-old playing with a condom. Heck, Chuck E. Cheese himself should have called the parents to apologize. Whatever happened to customer service?

Quote of the day

“We’re a resilient football team. … We’ve got some good veteran leadership that understands that you have to move on and play the next game. So our guys have moved on. You take the emotions and throw them away. You learn from the corrections, and let’s go play. It’s next game up in the NFL.” – John Harbaugh, the first-year head coach of the Ravens
