It shouldn’t be news that a man who believes the Fourth of July is a celebration of white supremacy has other ignorant takes on American history. But the left has made a hero out of former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, so his effort to compare the NFL draft to slavery in his new Netflix special is noteworthy.
In the segment, Kaepernick walks while talking to a camera that follows him around a football facility where black athletes are being measured and watched by white scouts.
“What they don’t want you to understand, is what is being established is a power dynamic,” Kaepernick says. “Before they put you on the field, teams poke, prod, and examine you, searching for any defect that might affect your performance. No boundary respected. No dignity left intact.”
The black athletes then jump from their football background to a slave auction background. Gone is their football attire, they are all cast in chains instead. White slave owners then bid over the players at auction.
Rep. Burgess Owens, who won a Super Bowl with the Oakland Raiders before running as a Republican in Utah, tweeted in response, “How dare @Kaepernick7 compare the evil endured by so many of our ancestors to a bunch of millionaires who CHOSE to play the game.”
Kaepernick first began sitting during the national anthem in 2016 after he had been benched for poor performance and replaced by Blaine Gabbert. When reporters noticed he was sitting for the anthem, Kaepernick explained at the time, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.”
The left wants people to believe that Kaepernick lost his job because of his refusal to stand for the flag. This is false. Kaepernick lost his starting job before he began sitting for the anthem, and it was his decision, not the 49ers’, to exit his contract. He just did not want to be a backup quarterback.
Kaepernick has since gone on to make millions selling Nike shoes made by slave labor in China. Now he’s making millions more promoting the idea that America is a racist nation.
I’m sure he still believes he is somehow a victim in all this.
