Less than 24 hours after White House press secretary Jen Psaki claimed that Americans stuck behind Taliban checkpoints in Afghanistan aren’t “stranded,” she admitted it will be impossible to get them all out of the country by the Aug. 31 evacuation deadline.
President Joe Biden refuses to extend the evacuation deadline. And so, when asked whether the Biden administration expects to leave some Americans behind, Psaki said, “We expect there could be some, but I’m not going to get into it further.”

She then reiterated the administration’s pledge to bring every American home, which is, at this point, worthless. If the Biden administration was truly committed to getting every single American out, Biden would have extended the deadline and threatened the Taliban with severe retaliation if they tried to stop us. Instead, he obediently withdrew even more U.S. troops and caved to the Taliban’s demands that the United States leave for good by Aug. 31.
Meanwhile, report after report confirms that hundreds, maybe even thousands, of Americans — we don’t know exactly how many — are stranded behind enemy lines. An American mother stuck in the region told Fox News that she’s made multiple attempts to reach the Kabul airport but was forced to turn around each time after seeing Taliban terrorists beat and whip people trying to get past their checkpoints. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed to lawmakers that many of the Americans attempting to reach the U.S. military in Kabul have suffered abuse at the Taliban’s hands. The result is that, as of Monday, only about 3,300 of the estimated 10,000 to 15,000 Americans trapped in Afghanistan have successfully left.
So, yes, Psaki is right: There will be “some” Americans left behind. The Biden White House knows it, the Pentagon knows it, and yet, this administration seems to be unwilling to do anything about it.
