Remember all that political drama that happened in September and October? According to early exit polling by CNN, it didn’t affect more than half of voters’ minds.
More than 60 percent of voters decided who to vote for before September. Another 13 percent each decided in October and September. Only 5 percent decided in the last week, while another 7 percent decided in the last few days.
Votes were decided in fairly similar fashion in 2012, when 69 percent of voters decided before September. About 10 percent each decided in September and October 2012, with 6 percent deciding in the last few days. Late deciders chose Obama over Romney, with those who decided on Election Day going 51 percent for Obama to 44 percent for Romney.
Most presidential election votes are decided by party affiliation, months before the horse race drama of the campaign’s closing days.
