‘Ultra-conservative’ is unnecessarily negative description Re: “Santorum losing ground in home state of Pa.,” March 29

Examiner congressional correspondent Susan Ferrechio describes some of Rick Santorum’s supporters as “evangelical or ultra-conservative”.

The latter term has a negative tinge and is not one that these folks would probably use to describe themselves. “Very conservative” comes closer.

Perhaps describing them as “social conservatives” would be best, since that seems to be what the writer was getting at.

Speed cameras won’t curb illegal texting

Re: “Speed cameras on every D.C. street?” March 28

If D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray wants to mount speed cameras on every single street in Washington, that’s fine with me.

But if the only purpose is to “protect people from the negligence or irresponsible behavior of others,” what’s the city doing to enforce its law against texting behind the wheel?

Ultimate judgment on abortion has already been made

Re: “A house divided against itself cannot stand,” From Readers, March 27

In her letter, Marta Ruiz de Gamboa says, “Although millions of women are against abortion, some will admit in the privacy of the voting booth that the ultimate judgment should be between a woman and her Creator, not in the hands of self-serving politicians.”

Wherever and whenever somebody has a conversation with the Almighty prior to making a judgment call on abortion, it’s safe to assume that the conversation will be short and one-sided. Thousands of years ago, the Creator of both the woman and her unborn baby said: “Thou shalt not kill.”

There is no right to kill God’s human creations, including babies in the womb. As stated in our Declaration of Independence, all of us have an inalienable right to life.

Metro is not as bad as the media portrays

I’m wrapping up a week of sightseeing in your spectacular city, and enjoyed reading the subway version of The Washington Examiner.

Earlier in the week I read what seemed to be criticism of the Metro system. But I have no complaints.

As someone who’s been on a number of subway systems, Washington’s Metro is a comfortable, convenient and easily navigated system. I bought a pass for the week, and Metro employees were very helpful in explaining how to use it correctly.
