On Monday, the nation observed the birthday of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Folks on social media posted their favorite quotes and memories of the civil rights leader.
Even President Trump released a video tribute to King, saying, “Dr. King’s dream is our dream. It is the American Dream. It’s the promise stitched into the fabric of our nation, etched into the hearts of our people, and written into the soul of humankind.”

One thing that was notably missing from President Trump’s message was an attack on the FBI, given his recent string of tweets criticizing the principal federal law enforcement agency when it comes to investigating Hillary Clinton’s email server and the probe into the Trump campaign’s connections to the Russian government.
If President Trump wants to take a well-deserved swipe at the FBI, today is the day to do it. The FBI has a well-documented history of spying and harassing King during his prominence as a civil rights leader all the way up until his death. They wire-tapped his phone, read his mail, and did everything the could to delegitimize and “neutralize” him. The FBI, led by J. Edgar Hoover, even sent a suicide letter to King encouraging him to kill himself.
President Trump, in many ways, is right about the FBI abusing their power, and they’ve been harassing black and brown people long before he became president.
