Sanders wants a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants. What if they’re on welfare?

Bernie Sanders, at the Democratic presidential debate, said he wants a “path toward citizenship” for the 11 million illegal immigrants in the country. (That’s probably a drastic underestimate, by the way.)

Alright, fine. That’s in line with every other Democratic presidential candidate who wants to give illegal immigrants free healthcare (wait, do they still get it free if they’re no longer illegal?) and decriminalize illegal border crossings.

Some polls show a majority of the public supports citizenship for illegal immigrants. Maybe they’re right, and maybe they’re wrong, but the question they’re asked is usually along the lines of: Do you support a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants currently residing in the U.S.?

Maybe respondents, assuming they’re actually American, should be informed of the consequences. Like, for example, what is a new American citizen with no money and three or more children entitled to under our current law?

Glad you asked! They’re entitled to a lot. That includes government-subsidized housing, food stamps, free school lunch, and on and on.
