Andrew Gillum just undermined confidence in Florida’s fair election

It’s really difficult to sit in Bill Maher’s audience and not want to scream.

During a visit to Los Angeles on Friday, I went to a taping of HBO’s “Real Time.” While there, I heard Andrew Gillum, who lost his bid for Florida governor in November, say that the election was stolen from him. When that happened, someone else in the audience had to tell me to be quiet because I was calling Gillum a liar out loud.

“Guess what, had we been able to legally count every one of those votes not just in Florida but also in Georgia, I wonder what the outcome may be,” said Gillum.

Almost no news outlet seems to have noticed his rejection of a perfectly fair election outcome (though I thought we were supposed to care when our democracy is undermined).

Maher, whom I like and who usually pushes back even against his liberal guests, didn’t even challenge Gillum on the subject.

I think I’ll stick to watching “Real Time” on a screen that won’t tell me to be quiet when I throw things at it in a blind rage.
