Democrats have two modes when it comes to the crisis at the border: They either deny that it exists, or they demand that every single migrant be allowed in for free healthcare and other taxpayer-funded goodies.
Because Democrats have blocked nearly every effort by the Trump administration to manage — not even reduce or stop, but manage — the never-ending flow of migrants coming in from Central America and Mexico to claim asylum, the whole system has collapsed.
As the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday: “Families arrive at a U.S. border unprepared to absorb the sheer numbers of adults and children who are, by law, allowed to remain at least temporarily — confounding federal policy and the Trump administration. It is getting more chaotic, as Border Patrol officials shuttle immigrants hundreds of miles to find space.”
From the Washington Post on Tuesday: “Homeland Security agencies already are struggling to comply with court orders limiting the amount of time families with children can be held in detention, and further processing delays could exacerbate dangerous overcrowding at Border Patrol stations and immigration jails. Some areas along the border have been overwhelmed, at times seeing three times as many migrants as they have beds in detention facilities, leading many to be directly released into the United States.”
The Trump administration has attempted to cope by asking Congress for more beds (denied by Democrats), asking for more wall funding (denied by Democrats), and requiring that asylum seekers coming in at legal entry points remain in Mexico while their cases are adjudicated (Democrats sued to stop this, but it was miraculously upheld for now in court — for now).
Meanwhile, proposals put forth by Democrats do nothing to stem the flow. To the contrary, they force open the valves.

Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro, who is running for president, released a “plan” for immigration that completely erases the border and calls for the admission of more legal immigrants, more than the 1 million per year that are currently admitted.
What’s the Democratic plan for adjusting the asylum loophole, the status quo that allows anyone setting foot on U.S. soil to stay indefinitely so long as they brought their children? There isn’t a plan, because this is how Democrats want it to be.
Joe Biden, the front-runner for the Democratic nomination, said Wednesday that Americans have an “obligation” to foot the bill for any illegal immigrant in need of healthcare. “That’s why I think we need more clinics around the country,” he said.
The immigration system has been crushed by the hordes of people showing up at the border, overwhelming authorities and their resources. This is exactly what Democrats have wanted all along, even as they swore they were in favor of “border security.”
Now, we know what “border security means.” It means no border at all.
