Over the weekend, Hillary Clinton once again revisited her 2016 loss, claiming she won the “optimistic” and “dynamic” areas of the country, which are “moving forward,” while implying President Trump won the “backwards” states, full of people who “didn’t like black people getting rights” or “women … getting jobs.”
This is just plain wrong. The voters indirectly referenced as “backwards” are optimistic, dynamic contributors in their communities.
This bitter dismissal of the heartland and its millions of voters outlines a bigger, defining feature of an elitist Democrat Party so out of touch with voters that they think disparaging us and working against us will somehow help them win.
Conveniently ignored by these remarks is the United States’ healthy growing economy, the falling African-American unemployment rate, and record-low unemployment reached just months ago for minorities overall, including Hispanics – all thanks to strong Republican leadership.
When it comes to working with Republicans to find solutions, Democrats have made it clear they would rather accomplish nothing than find common-sense solutions to the problems facing our country.
The Republican tax cut bill put Democrats’ disdain for hardworking Americans in full view. Over the last few months, 4.2 million people have already received bonuses, pay raises, and benefits from more than 400 companies. An estimated 90 percent of Americans are expected to see more take-home pay, which is why a majority of Americans support tax cuts.
Meanwhile, every Democrat in Congress voted against the tax overhaul bill and then had the nerve to mock the resulting benefits. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, one of the wealthiest members of Congress, warned that the tax bill would cause “Armageddon.” As soon as workers began receiving bonuses, she called those mere “crumbs.”
In January, Democrats continued their obstruction by refusing a bipartisan funding bill and needlessly shutting down the federal government – jeopardizing critical funding for our military, veterans, and millions of vulnerable children needing healthcare, all to play political games. They claimed it was for the future of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
To nobody’s surprise, they haven’t bothered to tackle the issue since.
Out-of-touch Democrats have sabotaged more than government funding – they’ve also hindered efforts to make our communities safer. Last year, they opposed bills that would crack down on illegal immigrant felons and hold sanctuary cities accountable for flouting federal immigration enforcement. The majority of Americans are in favor of this enforcement and against sanctuary cities.
Democrats’ obstruction and resistance comes at the expense of every single American who wants a stronger economy, lower taxes, safer neighborhoods, and an accountable government. These individuals who enrich our communities and country deserve elected officials who will fight for their interests, not against them. American voters will take a stand this November, and their message will arrive in Washington, loud and clear.
