No more Inter-County Connector yakety yak

One day after Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley signed the first construction contract for the $2.4 billion Inter-County Connector, 35 Maryland lawmakers were still trying to derail it. In a letter to the governor, the signers — including seven legislators from Montgomery County and nine from Prince George’s County, whose constituents will be the toll road’s primary beneficiaries — asked for a “time out.”

Such a request is disingenuous, at best.

The last “time out” lasted 40 years, during which time this 18-mile-long link between the I-270 and I-95 corridors was debated more often and in greater detail than NASA’s man on the moon project.

In fact, the ICC should be entered into the “Guinness Book of World Records” for “Most Hot Air Per Lane Mile,” and we don’t mean exhaust fumes.

Stop yakking. Start building.
